Zik headphones pack game-changing tech into sleek design

The launch of the new Zik headphones by wireless innovators Parrot and designed by Philippe Starck was not about flash: there were no celebs, no champagne or loud music, in fact the event mostly consisted of the media watching a commercial and then asking questions of Parrot executives - Asia CEO Elise Tchen, and Group Product Manager Theodore Sean.

Let there be light

French designer Philippe Starck has previously partnered with his country's esteemed crystal-maker Baccarat, but few of the collaborations have offered the level of detail and daring charm as his latest. The Marie Coquine is ostensibly Starck's own 12-light Zenith chandelier - but with a couple of surreal additions transforming it into a variety of lamps.

CRYSTAL ON DISPLAY

Wing Tai teamed up with Baccarat to hold an exhibition of the French crystal manufacturer's works at Forfar. More than 700 guests were able to appreciate about 40 pieces worth more than HK$3.5 million at the event organised by SCMP Marketing Services. They included exclusive creations by renowned designers Philippe Starck and Francois Pompon.

Why: Philippe Starck designed this Mary Poppins-meets-Raging Bull chandelier for Baccarat: at one end, under an ivory umbrella, are 12 graceful lights; at the other is a camel-leather punch bag, which acts as a counterweight; in the middle, supporting the two, is a photographic stand. The contrast could not be more Starck. Price: HK$328,000.
