Han Han: life and death on the Guia Circuit

The first time I saw Macau’s Guia Circuit was in the movie, All about Ah-Long. At the end of the movie, motorcycle racer Ah-Long, played by Chow Yun-fat, crashed his bike into a wall and died in a blast of flames on the circuit.

Paul Poon's Macau win is bittersweet after friend's tragic death

Macau Grand Prix Touring Car Cup winner Paul Poon Tak-chun yesterday told how he put aside tears and fears to take the chequered flag after his friend and fellow driver Phillip Yau Wing-choi lost his life on Friday.

Yau died during qualifying for the race won by Poon when his Chevrolet crashed into a barrier.

Phillip Yau Wing-choi became the second racer in two days to die at the Macau Grand Prix yesterday, but organisers denied there was a safety issue and insisted the event would continue.

Less than 24 hours after the death of one of their friends and colleagues, it was back to business on a sombre day for motorcycle riders at the Macau Grand Prix yesterday.

Luis Carreira of Portugal died during qualifying on Thursday, while tragedy struck the event for a second day in a row with the death of Hong Kong touring car racer Phillip Yau Wing-choi yesterday.
