Regatta will be jewel in crown

Twenty nine years ago, King Bhumibol Adulyadej sailed away with a gold medal at the 1967 Asian Games in a yacht of his own design.

While affairs of state have restricted further competitive sailing endeavours, the former skipper retains his love of the sport.

Millenium closes in on King's Cup

AUSTRALIAN Ray Roberts' grey-hulled flyer Millenium yesterday breezed away with the jewel in the crown of the Ninth Phuket King's Cup Regatta, the TAG Heuer Andaman Sea Race from Phi Phi Island to Nai Harn Bay.

Gotcha takes first blood

SINGAPORE-BASED Australian Ron McIntosh struck the first blow in the Ninth Phuket King's Cup Regatta yesterday when he sailed his Farr 36 Gotcha to victory in the opening race, The BMW short-course race in Nai Harn Bay off Phuket in southern Thailand.

Mandarin to manage luxury Thai resorts

MANDARIN Oriental International has made a new move into the resort business, signing agreements to manage luxury resorts in Phuket and Ko Samui, Thailand.

The properties involved are the Phuket Yacht Club Hotel and Beach Resort and the planned luxury Baan Taling Ngam Hotel and Resort in Ko Samui.

Mandarin will not take shareholdings in either of the resorts.
