Human error caused fatal Sukhoi Superjet crash, report says

Indonesian investigators yesterday blamed pilot error for the deadly crash in May of a new Sukhoi Superjet, post-Soviet Russia's first passenger plane, which slammed into a volcano during a promotional flight.

747's age not a factor, says pilot in 1999 accident

The pilot of a China Airlines jet that crashed at Chek Lap Kok airport in 1999, killing three people, said yesterday he did not believe the age of the Boeing 747-200 was a factor in Saturday's tragedy.

Pilot error

Japanese transport officials blamed pilot error for a bumpy ride which injured 12 people aboard a Japan Airlines jet flying from Hong Kong to Nagoya in June, the Jiji Press said. The accident was initially attributed to severe air turbulence but investigators found the pilot pulled the control stick excessively when the MD-11 jet was approaching Nagoya airport.

Air traffic control off hook

THE Civil Aviation Department has ruled out an inquiry into air traffic control after severe turbulence put 45 passengers and crew of a Thai International aircraft in hospital last Monday.

Immediately following the incident, the department said it was looking at both pilot error and air traffic control failures.
