Give hidden treasure greater prominence

I was at the airport recently and noticed a kiosk sponsored by the Social Welfare Department selling handicrafts made by handicapped or needy people.

What a great idea, but what a pity that it is located in an obscure corner in the departures hall that receives very little foot traffic.

Shocked by Indonesian blood-letting

Will we ever learn? Violence rarely achieves its objectives; if it does it is only at the expense of increased human suffering and unnecessary divisions between opposing factions.

Costly mistake of worshipping cash

Hong Kong people are getting richer all the time, which is a good thing, but look at the price they are paying.

I think many will agree that relationships between people in the past were much closer than they are now.

Hu Ronghua, 44, is in United Christian Hospital in a satisfactory condition.

Mr Hu is married with a son in China and came to work at the Universal Shipyard 15 months ago. He said he had been in similar tanks before, but they were less deep.

Cowardly attack on prince

PETE Alex, of Kowloon (letter headlined, ''Charles unfit to be King'', South China Morning Post, July 27), is certainly full of presumptuous opinions.

Let us all be thankful that most of what he has to say takes the form of his opinions.

He is entitled to those.

So negative

I CONGRATULATE the Commissioner for Correctional Services Mr Eric McCosh on the successful completion of his operation at Whitehead Detention Centre on the morning of April 7.

It is a pity that the South China Morning Post editorial of April 8, could do little more than find fault with the above operation.

Distinction stands

I AGREE with Sophie Bridge (Sunday Morning Post, January 31) that we should have compassion for all AIDS victims, whatever the source of their infection.

But I find it hard to agree with her that we should not make any distinction among AIDS victims with regard to how they contracted the disease.
