KFC parent Yum Brands warned that a new bird flu outbreak in China badly hit restaurant sales there this month, even as the company also reported a sharper-than-expected slide in March sales in the country caused by the lingering impact of a separate food safety scare.

Little Sheep shares fly on buyout news

Hotpot chain Little Sheep jumped more than 15 per cent to an all-time high yesterday after the Chinese government gave the green light to a buyout bid by Yum! Brands.

'The government approval came much earlier than the market had expected, sharply pushing up the share price,' said Olive Xia, food and beverage analyst of Core Pacific-Yamaichi Securities.

Former Pizza Hut branch manager and chef Yu Wai-lam, 28, was jailed for 51/2 years for robbing at knifepoint last year two restaurant branch managers of more than HK$80,000 on separate occasions as they were depositing cash into banks.
