Two men were being held in custody in Northern Ireland on Tuesday after being arrested over the attempted murder of a police officer.

The men, aged 34 and 25, were arrested on Monday in the Belfast area, said a spokeswoman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

Constable Ng Hon-man, 31, fell six metres from where he was checking a false ceiling at the main entrance to the government headquarters. He was knocked unconscious and hurt his head, ribs, lungs and left arm.

Lucky escape for policeman in cutter attack

A policeman had a narrow escape during a routine identity check in Sham Shui Po when a man attacked him with a cutter early yesterday.
