Department floats ideas to cut illegal dumping

The Environmental Protection Department has pledged greater co-ordination among departments to tackle illegal dumping and suggested tighter legislation to fight the problem.

Bid to exempt doctors from witness role

A doctor should no longer be required to act as witness when someone signs over control of their interests to another person, the Law Reform Commission has proposed.

In a report released yesterday, the commission also proposed that the government, Law Society and non-governmental organisations promote the use of enduring powers of attorney (EPA).

735 plants shut for polluting waterways

More than 700 factories nationwide have been closed for discharging waste into rivers and lakes, according to state media.

Xinhua said 75 officials running the 735 plants had been investigated and dealt with, but did not give further details.
