Valley falls prompt Jockey Club probe

The spate of falls and some hair-raising escapes at Happy Valley have prompted the Jockey Club's racing department to investigate safety at the revamped HK$1 billion city track. The probe will include talking to jockeys and a close scrutiny of race films and race falls including Wednesday's four falls - one when the rider was pulling up.

Antiquated riding rules should go

TO a visitor, the rules involving retained jockeys in Hong Kong taking rides outside the stable are head-shakingly complex.

In any other racing jurisdiction a jockey will be engaged by a trainer or an owner if he is available to ride. It is basically that simple.

JOCKEYS and trainers can have few complaints at all with the new deal which the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club announced yesterday.

As for racing as a whole, there seems to be more merit in the jockey proposals than those affecting the trainers.

Club don't care about local riders, blasts Cruz

TOP jockey Tony Cruz yesterday attacked the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club's policy towards local riders.

''No one gives a damn about us,'' he complained shortly after returning from a successful summer's riding in Europe and North America.
