Two major events in Hong Kong's sporting year became the latest casualties of Sars yesterday. A Davis Cup tennis tie and an Olympic soccer qualifiying match in Hong Kong were cancelled as the World Health Organisation issued its travel advisory warning against inessential visits to Hong Kong.

HK kick in surprise

HONG KONG'S schoolboys soccer team pulled off a surprise by reaching the semi-finals of the Asian Schools Soccer Championships in Brunei.

South Korea and China were favourites to qualify from the preliminary pool which also featured India and Singapore, but the Hong Kong squad managed to stay unbeaten in their group matches.
