A chippy off the old block

Quite a few restaurants in Hong Kong serve fish and chips, but there's only one bona fide fish and chip shop - The Chippy. It claims to serve 'Hong Kong's finest fish and chips', with some justification, particularly in the case of the chips.

Crunch time for serial snackers

Blue Diamond almond nut thins HK$25 for 120.5g, Nature's Village (Lyndhurst Terrace)

These are made from rice flour and almonds, but there isn't much of a nutty taste to them. The almonds, however, give these snacks a nutritional boost, being high in protein, fibre, vitamin E and heart-healthy mono-unsaturated fat.

Verdict: Good, but a little salty.

Chive talking

Flowering chives are very different from the mild-mannered variety used in the West - the flavour is strong and pungent. Unlike the Western chive, which is usually reserved for use as a garnish (on vichyssoise, for instance), the Chinese chive is grown to be eaten.
