Woman survives fall from fifth-floor flat

A woman is in serious condition after falling from her fifth-floor flat in a housing block in Kwai Chung while cleaning windows. The 56-year-old was found lying on the first-floor canopy of Yam Heng House, Shek Yam East Estate, at about 12pm yesterday. She was taken conscious to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin.

'Lasting friends' among HK dead

Five Hongkongers who visited the Shenzhen nightclub in which four of them died in Saturday night's fire had been close friends for years, the vice-principal of their secondary school said yesterday.

The five travelled to Shenzhen to celebrate the 18th birthday of Choi Wai-tat, who was killed along with his friends Liu Pun-yuen, 18, Lo Ka-leung and Leung Chun-yin, both 19.

Three hurt in collision

A boy, eight, his six-month-old brother and their domestic helper were slightly injured in a collision between their father's car and a delivery van in Kam Tin Road near Seasons Villas in Yuen Long at 7.45am. They were treated at a hospital. Their father, 47, and the other driver, 49, passed a breathalyser test.

Couple held for leaving 5 daughters at home

Police arrested a 32-year-old man and his 28-year-old wife on Saturday night for allegedly neglecting their five children, aged between one and seven years old. Neighbours sought help from police after they found the couple's five daughters had been left alone at their public housing flat in Shek Lai House at Shek Yam Estate, Kwai Chung.

Infant dies after being found unconscious

A two-month-old girl died after being found unconscious at her home in Kwai Chung yesterday. Her father, 43, found her in bed in the family's flat in Chi Shek House, Shek Yam Estate, at about 7.30am, and called police. The girl was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Couple rescued from gas-filled room

Tam Siu-yin, 23, a former personal assistant of musician Wong Ka-keung, and his girlfriend, 19, were rescued when they tried to gas themselves in a flat in Shek Yam Road, Kwai Chung, yesterday. The flat owner discovered the attempted suicide when he noticed the gas cylinder missing and the door to a room he rented to Tam sealed with tape.

Rush for applications as subsidised flats go on sale after 4-year freeze

Thousands of people flocked to inspect show flats yesterday as 3,632 subsidised units aimed at low-income families returned to the market following a four-year suspension of sales.

Applications for the Housing Authority's Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) and the Housing Society's flats-for-sale scheme, which both opened yesterday, will close on January 15.
