United fronts fight seaside reclamation

Residents across the city are fighting the government's ambitious waterfront reclamation plans, which they say would damage the coastline and worsen traffic.

A list of 25 proposed sites for reclamation to boost the land available for housing development was released for public consultation last month by the government.

Retail prices of pork are expected to fall today with a drop in yesterday's wholesale prices.

Wholesale prices of pork decreased to HK$1,600 per 100 catties yesterday from about HK$1,800 on Tuesday, Pork Traders General Association vice-president Hui Wai-kin said.

ID inquiry after death leap

Police are trying to establish the identity of a man who died after leaping from Ming Shun House in Jat Min Chuen, Sha Tin. He was thought to be aged 50 to 60 but no identification was found.

Few queue for HOS flats

Home Ownership Scheme flat sales resumed yesterday after a nine-month moratorium due to a property slump. Applications are open until August 8 for 2,451 flats in Sha Tin, Lei Yue Mun and Lam Tin. Fewer than 30 people were waiting to put in applications at the scheme's office in Lok Fu. The flats range from 654 to 997 square feet and are priced between $982,400 and $1,876,300.
