Estate redesign to help aged, disabled

Aged and disabled residents of old public housing estates are set to benefit from the government's redesign concept that provides 'barrier-free living' throughout the estates.

The first features of the concept were unveiled yesterday in Shek Kip Mei - the first public housing estate - at a plaque unveiling ceremony.

Man jumps to his death

A 45-year-old man jumped to his death from his flat in Mei Yu House, on the Shek Kip Mei Estate. He was confirmed dead at the scene by ambulance crew. Police believe he jumped from the dining room window.

A contest is being held to decide what to do with Mei Ho House, the oldest building in the city's first public housing estate.

People are invited to send their ideas for the building, in the Shek Kip Mei estate, to the Institute of Architects between August 18 and 31.
