Slam-dunking pupil hurts head in fall

A 17-year-old schoolboy suffered head injuries when he fell after slam-dunking a basketball at a school in Tsuen Wan. Chan Wing-hung, a Form Five pupil at Po Leung Kuk Yao Ling Sun College, was playing basketball in the school's outdoor court on Shek Wai Kok Estate when he fell. He was in a stable condition in Princess Margaret Hospital.

Police motorcyclist injured

A policeman was slightly injured when he lost control of his motorcycle in Cheung Pei Shan Road outside Shek Wai Kok Estate, Tsuen Wan, at 6.53am. He told officers he had hit oil on the road. The officer, 42, was treated at Yan Chai Hospital for minor abrasions and bruising on both arms and his left knee.

Taxi driver beaten by group, court told

Six men assaulted a taxi driver when he would not let them into his cab, because they exceeded his passenger limit, the District Court heard yesterday. Lam Chin-hang, 31, who was the only one arrested, pleaded not guilty to one count of robbery.

Three cans of beer, chrysanthemums and an offering of three apples lie on the grave of constable Leung Shing-yan in Gallant Garden yesterday. Leung was shot dead on this day six years ago when he was called to attend a noise complaint at Shek Wai Kok Estate.

The last hours of the life of police constable Leung Shing-yan were laid out for a coroner yesterday as an inquest began into his death and those of three others, including two other policemen.

Workman badly burned in gas explosion

A workman suffered severe burns to his head, shoulders and chest in a gas explosion at a public housing flat in Tsuen Wan yesterday.

A six-year-old boy and a domestic helper escaped serious injuries in the morning blast.

More than 100 residents were evacuated from Clague Garden Estate in Hoi Shing Road after the explosion in the 38th-floor flat.

Man takes overdose after row with girlfriend

A man was taken to hospital after an apparent suicide attempt in a flat at Shek Tsui House, Shek Wai Kok Estate in Tsuen Wan, at 11.40am. He overdosed on sleeping pills after an argument with a girlfriend. He was found by his father, who contacted the police. The man was taken to Yan Chai Hospital.

The mother of murdered policeman Leung Shing-yan's fiancee was taken to hospital on Saturday after being found in a mentally disturbed state outside Leung's home in Lei Muk Shu.
