Kids in the Street (CD) All-American Rejects

As a (once) hard-core fan of The All-American Rejects, I'd say 'unrecognisable' best sums up their fourth studio album Kids in the Street - but not in an entirely bad way.

Trout Mask Replica Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band Straight

When Tom Waits gives you props for bringing the crazy, you know you've reached some transcendental level of lunacy. Not that anyone would have dared to tell Captain Beefheart, who once pushed a drummer down a flight of stairs for failing to 'play a strawberry', that he was nuts.

1 TVB general manager arrested by ICAC for accepting advantages ? it gives new meaning to the name of his talk show, Be My Guest

It's a Misery Business Various Artists

If you're tired of the soppy love songs that dominate the music industry - sick, in fact, of anything love-related - and are looking for some highly emotional, ear-splitting tunes to scream along to, then It's a Misery Business is tailor-made for you.

Scream Aim Fire Bullet For My Valentine (CD)

In 2006, Welsh metalcore band Bullet For My Valentine released their debut album The Poison. Though not a masterpiece, it had some impressive tracks that captured the attention of metal fans. After that initial fame, the band promised something heavier and more aggressive in the next offering and anticipation was high when their sophomore Scream Aim Fire was released last January.

The upside of anger

Sub-genres are often exasperating for those on whom they're bestowed, and this is certainly the case for the young, mascara-wearing men of My Chemical Romance.

The debate surrounding the New Jersey rockers is whether their sound is alt-rock, pop punk, post hardcore, or 'emo' - that last label being a particular sore point with the five-piece.

Obscenity: seek and ye shall find

The recent complaints received by the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority about the 'obscenity' of the Bible could be said to re-define the words 'crass' and 'lunatic'.

The Horrors

The Horrors

Strange House

They've got hair to make Bauhaus look under-styled, wear jeans so skinny you might fear for their sex lives and capes borrowed from Christopher Lee, have ridiculous schlocky names, play music that sounds like a chainsaw massacre set to Hammond organ and come from deepest, darkest Essex.

Lost that hardcore sound

Metal fans may squirm while listening to Lost Prophet's latest offering, Liberation Transmission, but general listeners will be pleasantly surprised by their new pop-punk sound.

Smashing punk kin

WHILE CHINA HUMS along to the slow demise of Mando-pop, the capital, like London and Washington DC, remains essentially a rock'n'roll town. At the forefront are punk rockers Reflector, who headline Hong Kong's inaugural Punk-Hardcore-Metal Festival on Sunday.

Political hardcore in the moshpit

There may not be any Christian values preached when hardcore trashers Rambo play on Easter Monday, but you can expect plenty of righteousness.

What is your favourite band and why?

Torin Didenko, 16

Usher! His music touches almost everyone. The R&B music scene is a hard one to survive in and he has done a great job. Also his dance styles and music are similar to a young Michel Jackson but with a new urban touch.
