At least 25 people were killed in troubled southwest Pakistan yesterday when militants blew up a bus carrying women students and attacked a hospital treating survivors.

A roadside bomb killed 11 security personnel and two civilians on Thursday in southwestern Pakistan where separatist rebels have for decades been battling to control the region’s natural gas and other resources.

Bomb attacks wounded 17 people in Pakistan on Wednesday and targeted an election candidate in the run-up to historic general elections in the nuclear-armed country, police said.

The first attack wounded 13 people near a Shiite Muslim mosque and a private hospital in Pakistan’s southwestern city of Quetta, police said.
