Canadian scientists have discovered the cause of high cholesterol: a protein called resistin that's secreted by fat tissue. This finding could lead to improved prevention and treatment of heart disease, since high blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

Big entry for wizQ quiz

More than 134,000 primary and secondary students from 288 schools have enrolled in the third Inter-school Modern/wizQ Contest run by the Education Department and other organisations. The online competition will run from March 25 to April 27 and involve Primary three to Form Four students.

I agree with the letter 'Quiz show plea' (South China Morning Post, October 10) and the comments on the poor quality local television.

If showing the American or British versions of quiz shows, as requested in the letter is not possible, at least show subtitles of the questions and answers so that the English-speaking community can enjoy and learn from these shows as well.

I read with interest the letter headlined 'Quiz show plea' (South China Morning Post, October 10) I am pleased to be a refugee from Anne Robinson and Chris Tarrant and their programmes, two personalities who have dominated British television with The Weakest Link and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
