The big problem is going to be solving the track bias in operation at the city circuit.

Workout on grass pointer to future

MICK O'Brien, the astute Australian track man, used to come to Sha Tin every Saturday morning just to watch the grass-testing gallops.

O'Brien's contention was that they often throw up future winners and he was spot on as trainers have restricted access to the grass so when they can get on it, they usually make sure they gallop a couple of their horses ready to win.

Majestic way to get started

Majestic Conqueror looks a cracking good bet to get punters off on a winning note in the opening event at tonight's Happy Valley meeting. Betting at the troubled city venue should almost certainly revolve around horses that finish strongly and late and can thus grab the running out wide at tonight's meeting.

Take a shot at Fireball

Fireball can provide a spot of punting cheer on tonight's special Martell-sponsored Grand National meeting at Happy Valley. The world's most famous race is covered extensively by Britain's premier racing journalist, Jim McGrath, on page four.

Stewards demand a second audience

Three trainers and their riders are set to front the race-meeting stewards for a second time following the adjournment of yesterday's high-profile inquiry into the Gold Capture case. Yiu has the Killer instinct

Professionalkiller looks betting material in the second race on a cracking day's sport at Sha Tin this afternoon. The Ricky Yiu-trained youngster is contesting a local riders' affair - the very type of event which has been brought dramatically into the headlines by the run of Gold Capture in a similar contest at Happy Valley last week.

Racing starts at the unusual time of 5.45 in order to accommodate the French spectacular for which the drying ground should suit the topclass Pentire.

The Sha Tin Vase beckons enticingly at the weekend and following good work from Winning Horse on Monday it was the turn of the rapidly improving Citiluck to sparkle at yesterday's trackwork session. Citiluck was not asked to run any scintillating time when out on the troubled sandmesh surface in company with Lucky Partners; it was just the style of his work which impressed.
