Rangers manager Ally McCoist has praised his players for overcoming "the most traumatic time in the club's history" to complete the first part of their long journey back to the top of Scottish soccer by clinching the Third Division title.

Rangers boss McCoist insists Motherwell are Cup favourites

Rangers manager Ally McCoist says Motherwell should be regarded as favourites as the sides prepare to clash in the third round of the League Cup at Ibrox tonight.

The tie marks Rangers' first meeting with top-flight opposition since the "newco" were denied entry to the Scottish Premier League and voted into the bottom tier of the Scottish Football League in the summer.

Former Chinese national team captain and Crystal Palace defender Fan Zhiyi has joined Hong Kong side Buler Rangers as a player-coach, it was reported yesterday.

'If the team needs me as a coach, I'll try to do a better job in a coaching position. If the team needs me on the pitch, I'll be there, be it 10 minutes or 20 minutes,' Fan said in footage aired on Cable TV.

Maher to take action on sacking

FORMER Rangers defender John Maher is to take his old club to a Hong Kong Football Association tribunal tomorrow claiming he was unfairly released from his contract.
