For the record

So sang Paul Anka in lyrics he crafted for 'Uncle Ray' as he, on behalf of RTHK, presented the veteran broadcaster with a lifetime achievement award in 1997.

'That's beautiful, isn't it?' says the world's 'most durable radio DJ', an honour the Guinness World Records conferred on him in 2000, for 51 years of airtime.

Veteran DJ Ray Cordeiro a real touch of class

The article by Annemarie Evans about 'Uncle Ray' Cordeiro ('The man called Uncle', July 16) was a fitting tribute to a great light music and jazz lover.

Ray's big day

In Uncle Ray Cordeiro's own words, '2004 is my year!' The veteran DJ of RTHK tells CitySeen how excited he is to be turning 80. And if you knew what he had lined up until the end of the year, you'd see why he's so jolly.

After 55 years on the radio, he now has his own weekly one-hour show as the Music Godfather on TVB Jade.

Enjoyable and exciting experience

The report headlined 'Head of Radio 3 quits after contract rejection' (South China Morning Post, May 22) requires clarification.

My departure from RTHK has nothing to do with reduction of fringe benefits, nor has it anything to do with changes in the weekend music programme schedule.

Never-say-die broadcaster carries on

People who listen to RTHK Radio 4 cannot miss Uncle Ray, an elderly but famous disc jockey. He plays old melodies every night. In the local broadcasting industry, he is a very senior figure who enjoys high prestige and respect.

Ray goes all the way to world record

Veteran RTHK disc jockey 'Uncle' Ray Cordeiro has earned a place in The Guinness Book of Records as the most durable radio DJ.

Months of research by the editors concluded the 75-year-old was the longest serving disc jockey.

'I'm the first music man to have this honour,' Cordeiro said yesterday.

Peerless radio personality

Hong Kong people should be proud of Ray Cordeiro who has just completed his first half-century as both a broadcaster and leading radio personality.

He has brought so much joy to generations of listeners with his remarkable selection of music.

I cannot think of a broadcaster who can be compared with him.

Giants of the airwaves

It is a commonly known and accepted truth that great voices make for great radio, and RTHK's Radio 3 is a splendid example of that phenomenon.

Ralph Pixton's eternally calm and cool responses to some of the most aggravatingly selfish and petty complaints imaginable, that are aired on Open Line, is a joy to behold and a credit to his professionalism.
