Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late equaliser as Real Madrid avoided a bruising derby defeat at Spanish title rivals Atletico Madrid with a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

Ballon d’Or-winner Cristiano Ronaldo cannot wait to play for Real Madrid in Wednesday’s Champions League last 16, first-leg clash at Schalke 04, according to the Spanish giants’ boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The 29-year-old Ballon d’Or winner, who has scored 34 goals in 32 games for Real this season, has missed the last three Spanish league matches through suspension.

Cristiano Ronaldo helped Real Madrid reach their third Copa del Rey final in four seasons with a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and a 5-0 victory on aggregate.

Ronaldo, who was hit on the head by a cigarette lighter at halftime, converted a pair of early penalties at the Vicente Calderon to put the match beyond Atletico’s reach.
