It was only a matter of time before our politicians began pounding the chief executive's wife, so we shouldn't really be surprised that Regina Leung Tong Ching-yee's "Food for Good" campaign crossed the path of what I like to call the "Leung for Lunch" political campaign.

The Taiwanese president is coming under pressure in his second term as leader after being dismissed as an "ineffectual bumbler" by the British-based news magazine The Economist, which reported concern about the island's economic woes. Ma has denied reports that he ordered Taiwan's ambassador to Britain to rebut the piece.

Contract for area traffic control system awarded to Siemens

Updated at 7.06pm: The Transport Department on Monday signed a $70 million contract with Siemens and Siemens PLC Joint Venture to construct an area traffic control (ATC) system for Tuen Mun and Yuen Long.

The total contract is valued at $70 million. This will include construction costs of $52 million and five-year maintenance costs of $18 million.

Woman jailed for deception over false academic record

Updated at 6.46pm: A 41-year-old woman was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment in the District Court on Tuesday for obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception, a government spokesman said.

The deception related to deliberately falsifying degree certificates.
