Mall the merrier as Koreans prove a hit

Hong Kong has long taken Japan as a major inspiration for fashion that offers an alternative to the big European houses. But a new contender is working its way into the hearts, minds and wardrobes of local style seekers. Korean fashion is becoming a powerful force - designed for Asian shapes and offering a relaxed, slightly Westernised version of Asian cool.

HOT

Peplumed jackets

Hot at Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, although we are not sure how this will look on girls with hips.

Pairing colours

It's all about experimentation: camel with purple, green with mustard - the choice is up to you. Just don't go too wild.

D&G's neck scarves

The Queen was a great film but no one wants to dress like her majesty.

Louis Vuitton's conical hats

A little too religious for our liking.

Fashion guru likes to keep a low profile

Most designers are narcissistic peacocks who want to get as much press as possible for themselves. Not so with Japanese avant-garde label Comme des Garcons' founder Rei Kawakubo (above). Local agent I.T. opened a new three-floor shop last Friday in On Lan Street, Central, and the reclusive designer and her husband arrived that morning for the opening. However, she declined to do any press.
