Schwarzman Scholars plan raises doubts over Beijing interference

Stephen Schwarzman is already renowned in the global financial community for Blackstone, the investment firm the American co-founded in 1985. He will also be remembered now as a good friend of China, after his launch of a US$300 million scholarship programme dedicated to the world's No 2 economy.

Blackstone Group Chairman Stephen Schwarzman has agreed to give US$100 million for a programme that will fund the studies of graduate students in China, similar to the Rhodes Scholarships program.

Top graduate wins ticket to Oxford dreams with Rhodes scholarship

A psychology graduate from Chinese University has scooped the prestigious HK$1 million Hong Kong Rhodes Scholarship in the face of competition from 40 outstanding students.

The award will enable Siron Ng Siu-lun, who graduated last month with first class honours, to realise his ambition to take two master's degrees at the University of Oxford within two years.

CUHK student wins Rhodes scholarship

Chinese University business administration student Wong Ming-fung has been chosen Hong Kong's Rhodes Scholar for 1994.

Ming-fung, described by the scholarship selection committee as a candidate with a ''determination to strive for the best'', settled in Hong Kong with his family from their home in China 13 years ago.
