Pork vendors criticise supermarket 'sales tricks'

A group of wet-market vendors have filed a complaint against supermarkets, accusing them of using deceptive tactics to sell pork, such as passing off cheap meat as superior cuts.

If a cattle rancher or pig farmer could find a way to raise his animals so they consisted solely of steaks and chops, he would be ecstatic. Tender cuts of meat are the most popular - and the most profitable - because they're easy and quick to cook.

Meat and greet

Meat on the bone - especially racks - can make impressive dinner-party fare but they should be served only to good friends, not stuffy guests. As every carnivore knows, the best meat is closest to the bone and you don't want to attract snooty stares when you pick up the ribs and start gnawing on them.

The Windy City Group, which has Dan Ryan's and Amaroni's Little Italy, has opened a new restaurant in the IFC Mall. Although the menu at Union Bar & Grill states the restaurant serves 'Chicago-style food', it has dishes from many regions of the United States and other countries.

Claim to fame not a ribbing

BARBECUED ribs are not uncommon in Hongkong nor are American restaurants, but US-style ribs with Floridian sauce are something else.

That is the fare on offer at Tony Roma's A Place For Ribs, which opened yesterday in Lan Kwai Fung. The restaurant claims to offer what was once voted as America's best ribs.
