Lurid Nazi-themed production of Wagner opera cancelled

It was supposed to be one of the highlights of Richard Wagner anniversary celebrations, but a controversial Nazi-themed production of his Tannhäuser has been cancelled after it caused some audience members to seek medical help and prompted others to walk out in anger.

Soprano hits the high notes in journey to Beijing

Soprano Elizabeth Connell described her debut performance with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing as a wonderful journey.

'My experience of China has been Macau, Hong Kong and now the real capital, Beijing. It's been going step by step, up to the top,' she said.

Connell said the orchestra had a good grasp of Wagner's music style.
