Ricky Yiu Poon-Fai

Ricky Yiu is a famous racehorse trainer in Hong Kong. Born in 1957, he is the first Chinese trainer to have won at Group One level on foreign soil, taking out the Sprinters Stakes in Japan with Ultra Fantasy and the KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore with Sacred Kingdom.

Youngster proving to be a big hit for Yiu

The aptly named Bet On Me was the subject of a late betting move and duly won the Buffalo Hill Handicap (1,200m) for trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fai and jockey Alex Lai Hoi-wing. In an impressive display, Lai drove the four-year-old to a 1?lengths win over favourite Best Win, with a short head to Telecom Top Star in third.

Trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fai took the edge off his highly strung sprinter Fatboy Sugar last Sunday and got the chocolates yesterday when the four-year-old claimed the Foshan Handicap (1,000m) on the quick back-up. Fatboy Sugar was a brilliant winner on debut last term, but was scratched before making his second start when he refused to co-operate with his jockey going around to the barriers.
