Ricky Yiu Poon-Fai

Ricky Yiu is a famous racehorse trainer in Hong Kong. Born in 1957, he is the first Chinese trainer to have won at Group One level on foreign soil, taking out the Sprinters Stakes in Japan with Ultra Fantasy and the KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore with Sacred Kingdom.

Sacred Kingdom ripe for Nagoya's big race

Like any star galloper two years on, Sacred Kingdom now has the looks of a consummate professional rather than the bold, marauding new kid in town of late 2007, when he first drew world attention.

He does not win by big margins now, even when the race plays out perfectly for him, as it did on Sunday in the Chairman's Sprint, but he just wins the race.

Kingdom favourite as local sprint talent eye overseas events

The HK$4.5 million Chairman's Sprint Prize at Sha Tin today will underline the strength of local sprinting talent by serving as a potential launching pad to overseas assignments by half the field.

Nine runners will contest the Hong Kong Speed Series middle leg but as many as five of them have entries in different directions offshore depending on their performances.
