Road Surface

Women in high heels coming unstuck in LKF's broken paving

Women have been advised to put on less flattering flats and leave their stiletto heels at home when going to Lan Kwai Fong, to avoid being tripped up or damaging their favourite shoes.

Wound up in spring

Mid-March usually heralds the first signs of spring: the days getting discernibly lighter, for longer. Take a brisk walk in the park now and you can spot multicoloured blossoms forming on the branches and daffodils congregating around old trees.

20 Mar 2006 - 12:00am

Best option

I refer to the letter from A. M. Davy-Hou ('New bricks dislodged and dangerous', South China Morning Post, November 1) about the paving blocks at Kennedy Road, Mid-Levels.

23 Nov 2002 - 12:00am

Glenealy paved over and fenced in

I refer to the letter 'Needless waste of taxpayers' money' (South China Morning Post, May 31) and another on June 7 headlined 'Fences needed' concerning paving blocks at Glenealy, Central.

25 Jul 2001 - 12:00am

Obstruction is frustrating and dangerous

As a pregnant lady living in Staunton Street, it is very frustrating going to and from my home, as I am always stopped by a table that holds menus and other promotional leaflets right in the middle of the pavement outside the newly-opened eatery, Jaspers.

15 Jul 2001 - 12:00am

Fences needed

I fully endorse Ted Thomas's observations in his letter headlined 'Needless waste of taxpayers' money' (South China Morning Post, May 31).

The Highways Department's efforts to lay attractive brick pavements are frustrated mostly by primary or kindergarten schools parking their vehicles for convenience sake, on the pavement outside their premises.

7 Jun 2001 - 12:00am

Accident waiting to happen on pavement

Every day I walk along Hung To Road in Kwun Tong on my way to and from work.

Very often I find that certain businesses are using the pavement as either a workshop or a loading bay.

30 Nov 2000 - 12:00am

Road reserved for SAR's top officials

We went to watch the National Day fireworks from the Wan Chai harbour-front, near the Convention and Exhibition Centre.

11 Oct 2000 - 12:00am

Filthy streets

Hygiene standards in Quarry Bay are very poor.

The pavements in Tong Chong Street, Hoi Wan Street and Hoi Kwong Street, are full of piles of rubbish bags, foul-smelling food waste and bamboo baskets, which are left by restaurants and cafes in the area. This makes for a filthy environment.

12 Aug 2000 - 12:00am

Officials turning blind eye

Often in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai, I see shopkeepers placing boxes, plastic containers, bicycles or even umbrella stands with a concrete base on the pavement and road outside their premises.

15 Mar 1999 - 12:00am

Rainfall leaves trail of damage

AN elderly woman was forced to leave her home in an old Kowloon City building yesterday after the ceiling fell in during torrential rains.

Elsewhere, three cars plunged into a 30-metre-long mud-filled hole at the side of the road after a Clear Water Bay Road pavement collapsed.

Apologies for inconvenience

I REFER to Deborah Hicks' letter headlined 'Ludicrous' (South China Morning Post, May 31). Our company contractor is presently carrying out trenching work in the Link Road-Broadwood Road area for the purpose of laying cables to reinforce electricity supply in the area.

13 Jun 1995 - 12:00am

All part of a masterplan?

REGARDING the recent letters about Clearwater Bay Road roadworks, it would appear that the work in hand is the replacement of rainwater drains and the concrete road surface. These are no doubt necessary works, but that alone would not take till July 1996 as the Highways Department blithely inform us.

28 Jan 1995 - 12:00am

Problems for pedestrians

I AM wondering whose jurisdiction it is to look after the well-being of pedestrians? Is it the Urban Services Department or the Buildings and Lands Department, or the police? I sincerely hope that some legislators, whatever party they are, take a keen interest in this matter and try to address the many problems that exist in this area.

21 Nov 1994 - 12:00am

Poor state

I WRITE regarding the appalling state of repair of Wing Lung Road and its pavements.
