The number of burglaries dropped in the first four months of the year but more cash and valuables were taken in the raids, police figures show.

Jail term for Tai Po burglar

A mainlander was yesterday jailed for seven years and eight months by the Court of First Instance for having burgled a flat and a house in Tai Po last year. Wang Liguang, 31, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, aggravated burglary and carrying an imitation pistol with intent to commit a crime. He stole HK$6,200 in one break-in but nothing in the other.

Man jailed for breaking into houses

A mainlander who broke into three houses was sentenced to 39 months in jail after he pleaded guilty in the District Court yesterday. Tian Zhibo, 31, was convicted of three counts of burglary. He broke into the houses, including two on The Peak, in October 2006 and November last year.

Teenagers charged with robbery

Two boys and a girl, aged 14 and 15, arrested for allegedly robbing a goldsmith's shop at knifepoint have each been charged with one count of robbery. They will appear in Kowloon City Court today. Robbers raided the shop in To Kwa Wan Road, Hung Hom, on Sunday, escaping with goods worth HK$1.1 million. The alleged mastermind behind the operation has also been charged with robbery.

Failed thief gets jail wish

A middle-aged man who begged police to arrest him after making several robbery attempts at a KCR West Rail station was jailed for 21/2 years yesterday.

Leung Wai-him, 41, was sentenced in the District Court on three counts of attempted robbery and intent to possess a firearm. He had pleaded guilty to the charges.

Teen robbers deserve a chance, court rules

A District Court judge yesterday imposed a rehabilitation order on four teenagers who admitted robbing three victims, saying they deserved a chance to get their lives back on the right track.

Ta Chung-lam, 17, Yau Kin-chiu, 16, and two 15-year-old boys who cannot be named were sent to a rehabilitation centre after they pleaded guilty to three charges of robbery.

$1.6m worth of jewellery stolen in brush with 'painters'

A gang of robbers posing as painters assaulted a saleswoman and stole her briefcase containing jewellery worth $1.6 million outside her office in Yau Ma Tei yesterday afternoon.

Police said four or five men pretended to be painting on the eighth floor of Yu Hing Mansion in Woosung Street when the victim, 43, walked out of her office at about 1.30pm.

A 41-year-old mainlander was jailed for more than five years yesterday for robbing two tourists on The Peak.

The District Court heard the man robbed a Danish woman of her handbag and pushed her 5 metres down a slope while she was walking along Lugard Road on May 10.

Karin Tan, 63, suffered a leg injury but avoided more serious harm when a tree broke her fall.

Police investigate robbery of man in Yuen Long

Updated at 4.43pm: Police on Tuesday were investigating the attack and robbery of a man in Yuen Long ? who was carrying expensive gold ornaments and a large sums of cash.

A spokesman said the 37-year-old was robbed of $1 million worth of gold ornaments and $100,000 cash on Monday when he entered a public toilet in Hong King Street.
