Smash and grab raid bags $12,000

Burglars carried out a smash and grab robbery on a Louis Vuitton store yesterday and stole two handbags worth more than $12,000.

A car smashed through the front windows of the shop in Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, at 4:30am.

A mainland man who robbed a salesman of diamonds worth $2.45 million in Causeway Bay after bashing him and a colleague over the head with a metal bar was jailed for six years. Zhong Hua-kun, 26, hit So Ying-yin in Percival Street on July 17 last year and snatched his case containing the diamonds, four gold bracelets and a wallet. He also hit Abuhatzira Avraham when he held on to his case.

Bag-snatchers rob woman of $70,000

An Indonesian woman, 30, was robbed of more than $70,000 by two men in Tai Koo. The robbery took place shortly after 10.15am when the victim, surnamed Defi, was attacked from behind by the robbers, who grabbed her handbag. She told police the bag contained $70,000 and 40,000 rupiah (HK$360).

Gem theft suspect charged

A mainland visitor, 26, arrested in connection with attacking and robbing two jewellery salesmen of $10 million worth of diamonds in Percival Street, Causeway Bay, on Wednesday, was charged with one count of robbery. He will appear in Eastern Court today.

A man, 31, was arrested last night for allegedly wasting police time after he reported being robbed of cash and jewellery worth $42,000 by a gang in Riviera Garden, Sha Tin. Police said he lost the money in Macau and invented the tale to deceive his wife.

$500 bank heist 'a sign of downturn'

A robber escaped from an HSBC branch yesterday with what is believed to be the smallest amount stolen in any raid in recent years - $500 in $20 notes.

He approached the counter of the bank in Waterloo Road, Kowloon City, and handed in a note claiming he had a gun and demanding $50,000.

II cat burglar arrested after one-hour stand-off

A mainland illegal immigrant, 22, was arrested for attempted burglary after he was found climbing up a block of flats outside a fourth-floor flat in Chak Sing House, Tin Chak Estate, Tin Shiu Wai.

He was found sitting on the canopy when police arrived and surrendered after an hour.

Brick attack on shopkeeper

$480,000 burglary in Kowloon City

BURGLARS escaped from a Kowloon City flat early yesterday with $480,000 worth of cash and jewellery. Police were called to the first-floor flat in Cambridge Road at about 12.30am, after the resident came home to find his bedroom window had been forced open and a safe broken into in the bedroom. Missing were $20,000 in cash, several diamond rings and 11 watches.
