Writer Yu Xiaoyan filed a High Court writ on Wednesday against Synergis Management Services for alleged security failures she said allowed burglars to tie her up and take items including two watches once owned by Sun Yat-sen from her home in Green Crest, Yuen Long, last year.

Jail term for Tai Po burglar

A mainlander was yesterday jailed for seven years and eight months by the Court of First Instance for having burgled a flat and a house in Tai Po last year. Wang Liguang, 31, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, aggravated burglary and carrying an imitation pistol with intent to commit a crime. He stole HK$6,200 in one break-in but nothing in the other.

Man jailed for breaking into houses

A mainlander who broke into three houses was sentenced to 39 months in jail after he pleaded guilty in the District Court yesterday. Tian Zhibo, 31, was convicted of three counts of burglary. He broke into the houses, including two on The Peak, in October 2006 and November last year.

Teenagers charged with robbery

Two boys and a girl, aged 14 and 15, arrested for allegedly robbing a goldsmith's shop at knifepoint have each been charged with one count of robbery. They will appear in Kowloon City Court today. Robbers raided the shop in To Kwa Wan Road, Hung Hom, on Sunday, escaping with goods worth HK$1.1 million. The alleged mastermind behind the operation has also been charged with robbery.

Failed thief gets jail wish

A middle-aged man who begged police to arrest him after making several robbery attempts at a KCR West Rail station was jailed for 21/2 years yesterday.

Leung Wai-him, 41, was sentenced in the District Court on three counts of attempted robbery and intent to possess a firearm. He had pleaded guilty to the charges.

Teen robbers deserve a chance, court rules

A District Court judge yesterday imposed a rehabilitation order on four teenagers who admitted robbing three victims, saying they deserved a chance to get their lives back on the right track.

Ta Chung-lam, 17, Yau Kin-chiu, 16, and two 15-year-old boys who cannot be named were sent to a rehabilitation centre after they pleaded guilty to three charges of robbery.

Zhou Xuan thought he was unfairly treated when he was jailed for 11 years for beating up a bus passenger and stealing HK$10.

Zhou was also fined 1,000 yuan and deprived of his political rights for three years by a Guangzhou district court late last month. His accomplice, Zhou Zhike , received the same sentence.
