Masked trio stage $10m gold robbery

Robbers fled with about $10 million worth of gold and jade from a jewellery shop at the Hong Kong Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui last night.

Two security guards and a passerby caught a burglary suspect after a chase in East Point shopping arcade in Quarry Bay. A boutique had been prised open and clothes worth $832 taken.

Two plain-clothes officers foiled a multimillion-dollar armed robbery yesterday when they stopped a gang which had forced a car off a road in Sha Tin.

Officer's car 'used by gang'

A police officer's sports car was allegedly used by a burglary syndicate to transport stolen pagers to a customer.

The constable, 28, was arrested on Sunday but bailed pending further inquiries.

The Mitsubishi sports car was registered in the officer's name, but he is not believed to be involved.

Robbery as victims sleep

About $350,000 worth of jewellery, $5,000 in cash and some foreign banknotes were stolen from a house in Clear Water Bay Road, Ta Kwu Ling, while the householders were asleep.

A maid found the garden's back gate damaged and the ground floor of the house ransacked.

THREE 15-year-olds have been charged with attempted robbery after allegedly trying to mug a 69-year-old woman in Central yesterday. The trio allegedly attacked the woman in Glenealy Street and tried to steal her handbag.

IIs steal $250,000 in raid on home

Three suspected mainland illegal immigrants broke into a Kowloon Tong house, tied up and gagged a businessman, his two Filipino maids and a Nepalese driver and escaped with $250,000 in cash and jewellery yesterday.

The Putonghua-speaking men climbed into the two-storey house through an unlocked kitchen window at the Beacon Hill Road home at about 3.30am.

Macau shots

A gunbattle broke out after a robbery at a pawnshop near the Jai-Alai Stadium, Macau, early this morning. Three armed men threatened staff and ransacked the shop. As they were fleeing with watches and gold ornaments two police officers challenged them. Shots were exchanged and one of the robbers was hit in the leg.

Shoppers trapped as police hunt robbers

A Causeway Bay shopping centre was sealed off yesterday, trapping hundreds of people as police searched for a gang of robbers.

About 1,500 people were stuck in The In Square in Windsor House for up to three hours while about 110 armed police, many wearing bullet-proof vests, were deployed to seal off the 15-storey building and search it.
