A MAN accused of taking part in an armed robbery in which victims were locked in a freezer room was yesterday found not guilty.

POLICE in Kwai Chung say they have cracked a burglary gang with the arrest of three youths between Monday and yesterday. The trio was believed to be responsible for at least 20 burglaries.

Failed robbery

POLICE are searching for two men in their 30s after a bungled robbery in Central last night. A three-man gang tried to snatch a bag containing $27,000 and diamonds from a 34-year-old merchant in a lift. He fought back and chased them into the street where a man was caught.

Robber's jail term reduced

AN amateurish bank robber won a four-year reduction in his jail term after the Court of Appeal decided a 16-year sentence was too heavy.

Li Shu-chow had been convicted of robbery, attempted robbery and two counts of possessing an imitation firearm while committing an offence.

Police hunt Jockey Club robbers

ROBBERS snatched two cash boxes containing $2 million from two security guards outside a Jockey Club betting centre in Tsuen Wan yesterday.

The robbery occurred just before 3.30 pm at the Tsuen Kam Centre in Castle Peak Road as the Hong Kong Security guards were walking to a waiting van after collecting the money.

A FILM extra who held up a bank with a toy gun has been sentenced to a total of 10 years' jail at the High Court.

The penalty was imposed by Mr Justice Ryan on Law Chi-ming, 26, after a jury unanimously found him guilty on one count each of robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

ON the evening of December 11, I watched an RTHK-made police programme, that discussed burglary prevention at factories. It was mentioned that one way to prevent break-ins was to instal secure locks to doors and metal bars to windows. While this is an effective form of crime prevention, it is important to consider the implications.
