Modern technology wins day as timing system is tried out

A sectional timing system specially adapted for racing will go into operation on a trial basis in Hong Kong at the end of next month. It will be initially tested over 400 metres and then in turf trials, but the Jockey Club is not saying when it will be in operation on our two racecourses.

'Worked back' rail given green light

The new 'worked back rail' on the troubled B Course at Happy Valley will have its raceday baptism at next Wednesday's meeting at the city track.

Racing officials, headed by the director of racing Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, met trainers after trackwork yesterday to discuss the arrangements and other pertinent topics.

UNDERRATED Made To Figure produced a dazzling display to win the featured Ladies' Purse in front of a festive crowd of 69,561 at Sha Tin yesterday.

The David Oughton-trained four-year-old (10-1) will enhance his rating of 103 with a record-breaking display over 1,400 metres where he established a new mark of 1:21.4.

WOODS HUNGRY FOR MORE SUCCESS

HIS enforced absence from the saddle has obviously whetted Wendyll Woods' appetite for winners as he proved again at Sha Tin yesterday with a polished double.

Woods landed the low-grade third event with Add More (4-1) and then brought up the twosome in the seventh race with Top Practitioner (4-1 favourite) on whom he gave an impeccable display.
