Mainland car sales continue to slow down

Sales of passenger cars on the mainland grew by single digits for the third month in a row, climbing only 2.8 per cent from a year ago in further evidence of a slowdown in the world's biggest car market.

Foreign tenders win approval

Beijing has given some of its companies permission for the first time to issue international tenders for construction machinery and electrical products. The China Daily said 31 firms were given tender certificates which allow them to invite bids internationally for machinery and electric products.

Property agency sells 10 units

The Government Property Agency says it sold 10 of 14 surplus government quarters units offered in the latest tender. The response was weaker than the previous sale, with 51 tenders received. However, 21 bids were for the unit in Happy Villa. The four unsold units will be reoffered next year.

Sealed tenders have become wealthy property owners' preferred method for house sales, Jackie Langridge, director with First Pacific Davies (FPD) and head of its prestige home division, says.

She said that luxury-home owners preferred to sell their properties this way as against a private treaty arrangement because it was more efficient.

MORE than $4 million was raised from the auction of 40 vehicle registration marks yesterday. The highest price of $400,000 was paid for GG1. The registration GG88 fetched $300,000. Proceeds from the sale will be transferred to the government lotteries fund.
