Political pressure at RTHK just fact of life, says ex-chief

Former director of broadcasting Cheung Man-yee has claimed that to deny RTHK staff were subject to political pressure was merely to "deceive oneself", but she insisted that calling for incumbent director Roy Tang Yun-kwong to quit would not solve the problem.

Reprieve for RTHK's Legco report

RTHK chief Roy Tang Yun-kwong yesterday backed down from his controversial suggestion to scrap the TV programme Legco Review, a source said.

He nevertheless plans to press ahead with his proposal for a new one-on-one interview TV programme, which will begin broadcasting next month as scheduled, the source, a person familiar with the situation, said.

A staff union, after rolling out a 'black carpet' to greet Roy Tang Yun-kwong on his first day of work, has conducted a 'referendum' in which 88 per cent of the staff were found to be against his appointment. Some even supported going on strike.
