The weekly programme 'Face to Face' hit the city's free TV channels last month on the orders of RTHK's government-appointed Director of Broadcasting Roy Tang Yun-kwong - sparking speculation that it was intended to be used as a political tool.

The competition is hosted by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 4 and is open for applications until May 16. Applicants must have a permanent Hong Kong ID card.

Graft-busters last night confirmed they have arrested four people connected to RTHK for cheating the government over service charges.

The arrests, made over the past two days, came after the ICAC received a tip-off.

Ma Yun-chi entered RTHK's broadcasting booth at Happy Valley's race track last night not knowing if he would ever return there to present another show for the radio station.

I found his views on what constitutes free speech for the expatriate community deeply disturbing.

Challenges awaiting RTHK's new broom

The news that RTHK Radio 3 is to lose its present head is interesting ('Head of Radio 3 quits after contract rejection,' South China Morning Post, May 22).

The public must speculate on the reasons for the move. As usual, our Government surrenders behind a veil of secrecy and will not explain events.

TOTAL BREAKS $100,000 BARRIER

Operation Santa Claus has broken the $100,000 mark. Yesterday's donations brought the total to $101,685. A big thank-you goes to the Dutch Association for the $6,085 raised at a party.

Dragon on air

The drama Dragon Island will be broadcast on Friday on RTHK Radio 4 as part of an inaugural International Festival of English-language Drama on Radio. The programme will be broadcast in five countries and RTHK will feature dramas from other countries in the following weeks.

I am an RTHK Radio 4 listener and a subscriber to its free FM Magazine. On April 29, I received a letter from RTHK informing me that I would be charged a $100 subscription fee for the magazine.
