Play-off title win ensures Fuji's double dose of glory

FUJI became the first team to complete the U2 Premier League double when they defeated a depleted Rubicon 3-1 to clinch the play-off title at the Hong Kong Squash Centre yesterday.

Fuji had bagged $50,000 for winning the 15-round league competition and they collected another $35,000 for beating Rubicon, who were without Hong Kong champion Faheem Khan.

Fuji back into focus

CHAMPIONS Fuji came back from the brink of defeat to edge a depleted Rubicon in the play-off round of the U2 Premier League at the Hong Kong Squash Centre yesterday and book their place in the finals, writes Norideen Kitchell.

Rubicon were again without number one Faheem Khan, recuperating from a kidney infection which has kept him out of action for almost two months now.

Fuji grab squash title thanks to student hero

STUDENT squash player John Choi Wing-yiu was the toast of the Fuji team who captured the U2 Premier League title in an exciting last round victory over Rubicon at the Hong Kong Cricket Club.

Both Fuji and Rubicon went into the final match of the 15-week competition in joint first position on 52 points, with the championship to be decided by the outcome of the tie.

Rubicon title bid hit by Khan's absence

HONG KONG champion Faheem Khan's absence could cost his team Rubicon the Premier League crown when they take on Fuji in a top-of-the-table clash at the Hong Kong Cricket Club today.

Khan is having an extended holiday in his native Pakistan after taking part in the Pakistani Open and Dubai Open tournaments and a depleted Rubicon may struggle without their regular number one.

Top players' absences hit leading two teams hard

JOINT-LEADERS Fuji and Rubicon felt the pinch of being without their Pakistani number ones, Mohammad Sadiq and Faheem Khan, as they went down in their respective U2 Premier League squash matches yesterday.

Sadiq and Khan are in Doha for the Qatar Open and both were missed as Fuji were beaten 5-1 by Perrier while Rubicon lost by the same scoreline to Express News One.

Club cross the Rubicon

HONG KONG Football Club Eagle Star beat Rubicon 7-6 after a countback and completed the first round of the U2 Premier League at the Hong Kong Squash Centre last night.

But the match went to a countback. Eagle Star's Peter Hill and Ian Hardy each won their rubbers in straight games but Alan Hicks and Joseph Kwok both went down. Kwok's single game in a 1-3 loss proved decisive.
