San Francisco to host 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens

The 2018 men’s and women’s Rugby World Cup Sevens will be hosted by San Francisco, giving the sport in the United States a significant event which organisers and World Rugby hope will spread its appeal there.

Slow going at old Kai Tak keeps World Cup dream grounded

Kai Tak stadium will not be ready before 2018, and that’s a crying shame. Otherwise Hong Kong would have been able to put on the Hong Kong Sevens and host the Rugby World Cup Sevens later that same year.

Hong Kong has ruled itself out of bidding to host the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens, saying it would present "a difficult challenge" to host two international tournaments that year - the Hong Kong Sevens being the other - in the city.

Sevens World Cup may continue after it becomes Olympic sport

The International Rugby Board will look at keeping the World Cup Sevens and playing it between Olympic cycles following the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro when sevens makes its debut as a medal sport. The IRB had previously maintained that the Moscow World Cup would be the last one now that sevens has been included in the Olympics.
