With his sixth budget, Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah failed to alleviate the problem of the wealth gap in Hong Kong. Tsang obviously feels it is important to be cautious, but there are times when you can be over-cautious.

A group representing pilots around the world is backing plans for a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport.

The International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations, which has 100,000 members, said the city would eventually need a third runway because of increasing air traffic.

Ex-pilot casts doubt over proposed third runway

A former pilot has questioned the effectiveness of a proposed third runway at Chek Lap Kok in increasing the number of flights able to land and depart.

The Airport Authority says the new runway, which is opposed by environmentalists, will increase hourly aircraft movements to 102 from 68, relieving congestion as passenger and freight traffic grows.

Airport quizzed on green report

The government wants the Airport Authority to give it more information on how the third runway at Hong Kong International Airport will affect the ecology.

The authority handed in a report on May 29 which showed how big the project would be and how it might affect the environment. But some green groups say important information is missing and some are out of date.
