Worker dies after being electrocuted at Legco site

A worker electrocuted while putting the finishing touches to the new Legislative Council building earlier this week died in Ruttonjee Hospital yesterday.

Lai Yiu-hon, who turned 29 on Wednesday, is the first worker to have died at the site of the new government headquarters in Admiralty since construction began in 2008.

Driver, 60, dies after collapsing at wheel

An autopsy will be carried out on a motorist, 60, who died in hospital after collapsing at the wheel in Causeway Bay yesterday. Chan Shing-tin lost consciousness before his car slammed into a crash barrier on the Gloucester Road flyover near Victoria Park at about 12.30pm, police said. He was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital and declared dead at 12.51pm.

Pedestrians splashed with solvent

Five passers-by, including an 18-month-old girl, were splashed with a solvent being used to check a leaky drain at the Rialto Mansion on King's Road in North Point yesterday. The purple liquid, administered by a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department worker, spilled onto four female pedestrians, aged 24 to 37, and a toddler on Fuk Yuen Street.

Woman with history of mental illness arrested for throwing things from flat

Police broke into a flat in Causeway Bay yesterday and arrested a 62-year-old tenant with a history of mental illness after she threw a chair, cushion, wooden pole and plastic bottle out of the window.

The chair broke the windscreen of a car parked in Lockhart Road, but no casualties were reported.

Months-old boy dies after multiple injuries

A 2 1/2-month-old boy, whose father was charged with ill-treatment and neglect after the boy was admitted to Ruttonjee Hospital earlier this month with multiple injuries, has died.

Police said a post-mortem examination would be carried out on Monday to identify the cause of death, and legal advice was being sought from the Department of Justice to amend the charge to murder.

Three arrested for attacking couple

Three men were arrested in Wan Chai after a brawl in which a couple and a police officer were injured. The trio, aged 31 to 44, allegedly ambushed and attacked the couple after they had a verbal dispute in a pub in Fenwick Street near Lockhart Road at 8am. A sergeant was slightly injured when pushed to the ground. The couple and the policeman were treated at Ruttonjee Hospital.
