Biggest protests in 20 years sweep Brazil

As many as 200,000 demonstrators marched through the streets of Brazil’s biggest cities on Monday in a swelling wave of protest tapping into widespread anger at poor public services, police violence and government corruption.

Jail gang 'ordering murders of police' in Sao Paulo, Brazil

A prison drug-trafficking gang is believed to be orchestrating a wave of murderous attacks against military police in the Sao Paulo area of Brazil.

About 100 officers, including 90 military police, have been killed in the region so far this year.

Forty-one of the officers were executed by gunmen.

Fake goods targeted in Brazil

Six Chinese merchants have been detained and millions of dollars in alleged counterfeit goods confiscated during an anti-piracy raid in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, the China News Service has reported.

Authorities, with the help of military police, blocked off a mall housing almost 300 shops run by Chinese merchants at 6.30am on Tuesday.
