Building sand castles, most people will tell you, is a summer pastime for children at the beach. But not for Paul Hoggard, Remy Geerts, Craig Mutch and Calixto Molina, who have turned sand castles into a form of art and rewarding careers.

SAND CITY RISES IN NEW TOWN PLAZA

There are some very impressive sand castles at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin. That's right, inside the mall's Atrium Gallery (first floor, Phase 3) are 30 tonnes of sand transformed into sculptures based on elements of the Brothers Grimm's original Snow White (hence, no Dopey, Sneezy or Doc). The castles were created by four Dutch sand-sculpting maestros from the World Sculpting Association.

Sculptors to compete in beach battle

Sand sculptors are being invited to display their skills at the International Sand Sculpture Competition.

Organised by the Provisional Regional Council as one of the Millennium Celebration Activities, the contest will be held at Clear Water Bay Second Beach from 10 am to 4 pm on November 7.

Sandcastle challenge

Shek O beach sands will undergo an artistic transformation when it hosts the Southern District Sand Sculpture Competition on October 13.

Entries are being invited for one of the seaside village's most popular events.

'Form a team with your family or friends and show your creative skills,' said an Urban Council spokesman.

Pix people to hit the beach

TEAMS from government offices, schools, corporations and organisations will compete in individual categories at The Kodak International Sand Sculpture Competition.

The event will take place at the Clear Water Bay, Second Beach, Sai Kung, on December 11.

Wong Tai Sin's three ingredients of success

WONG TAI SIN District Junior Police Call has again proved that close co-operation, lots of preparation and experience are the key to success in open competitions.

The district's six-member sand sculpture team recently netted the two top prizes in the 1993 Sand Sculpture Competition organised by the Regional Council at Clear Water Bay Second Beach in Sai Kung.
