Hong Kong needs to keep the very basic right of holding by-elections

The decision by the SAR government to abolish by-elections in Legco's geographical constituencies is now doubly suspicious. Few other policy decisions and their fast-track U-turns have been reached with such speed, lack of public consultation, and failure to obtain independent legal opinions.

I have lived in Hong Kong for more than 27 years and consider it my home.

In the past one of the most amazing aspects of this pulsating city was its incredible juxtaposition of natural beauty alongside the areas of concrete jungle with their high-rises.

Government claims on transport subsidies are disingenuous

Hong Kong's ferry services have apparently been losing money for some time and some communities are calling for government support to maintain regular transport links, which is contentious.

It is specious of our SAR government to argue that it cannot subsidise public transport; it already does so.

Angry farmers take compensation battle to vice-president

Chicken traders and farmers took gripes over compensation offers related to the buyback of their licences to the national level yesterday when they petitioned Vice-President Xi Jinping .

The move came as another round of negotiations over compensation between the Food and Health Bureau and chicken farmers broke down.
