Sixteen schoolchildren and a teacher burned to death in eastern Pakistan early yesterday when a short-circuit near a leaking fuel tank caused their minibus to burst into flames.

Fifteen kindergarten pupils in rural Guixi, Jiangxi province, crammed into a van designed for seven, plunged into the cold waters of a roadside pond on Christmas Eve because their driver, who owned their unauthorised kindergarten and who had only been driving for a year, lost control of the vehicle. Eleven children died.

Third child dies after preschool bus accident

The accident in Yangchun city occurred on Monday, as new national regulations for school bus safety came into effect. Fourteen other children were injured, Xinhua reported.

10 children injured as bus tips over

Ten kindergarten pupils were injured when their school bus tipped onto its side in Harbin yesterday.

The accident happened when the children, all under the age of five, were on their way to kindergarten, Xinhua reported, citing local police.
