Thief threatens guard, 71

A security guard, 71, was threatened with a screwdriver and locked in a storeroom as a thief stole a car from a building in Waterloo Road, Kowloon City.

Cars valued at $2m stolen

Cars worth $2 million were stolen from a Yuen Long motor company. The 37-year-old owner of the company, based in Fairview Park Boulevard, discovered eight Japanese cars missing and five others damaged shortly after 9am. The thieves are suspected to have got in through the back door of the premises where a broken locking chain was discovered and a screwdriver found.

Raider none the richer

A burglar sawed off two metal bars, removed a ventilation fan and climbed through a 50cm-wide hole into an HSBC branch in San Po Kong yesterday, but fled empty-handed.

The attempted theft was discovered when the man set off an alarm in Hong Keung Street at about 3am. Security staff from HSBC went to the scene from their Tai Kok Tsui control room.

Man 'jumps to death after screwdriver attack on wife'

A MAN, 75, apparently jumped to his death from a 22nd-floor flat in Fung Wah Estate, Chai Wan, after attacking his wife, 71, with a screwdriver, police said. The woman suffered head injuries and was in serious condition last night.
