City University looks into harsh treatment of students

City University will set up a review committee to investigate the rough treatment of students who protested at a rally held last week during an opening ceremony on campus.

Bad news inspires actors

News reports have depicted Sheung Shui in a poor way recently. At the start of the year parallel traders competed with local mothers in the New Territories town to buy stocks of powdered milk formula. The huge demand was sparked by continuing health fears over mainland-produced milk. Also, a psychiatric patient killed a security guard there in January.

Hospitals back defence plan, but critics warn of possible abuse

Hospital staff and the public are split over a controversial Dongguan government regulation requiring hospitals to stock up on nightsticks and pepper spray to cope with violence from patients' families.

The government issued the regulation in February to boost security at the city's medical facilities.

Security guards helped thief in HK$4.5m robbery of flat, resident claims

A City Garden resident is suing the estate's property manager for a blatant breach of duty after its security guards let a burglar into the building and helped him remove HK$4.5 million worth of property from her flat.

Chong Yuk-mui is suing Cayley Property Management, the property manager of the residential estate in Electric Road, North Point.

Guard chopped to death

HONG KONG - A psychiatric patient is believed to have slashed a security guard to death in Sheung Shui only three hours after visiting a public hospital. The killing raises fears the current medical system is failing to identify and care for the mentally ill.
