Wheels of fortune for mainland bureaucrats

Hong Kong may be gloating over its success as the world's top raiser of IPO funds, amounting to HK$440 billion in 2010. But that kind of money is peanuts on the mainland.

It would not even be enough to keep our senior comrades comfy in their luxury sedans.

Sedan chair race seeks heritage recognition

The organiser of Hong Kong's annual charity sedan chair race wants the event classified as an intangible cultural heritage, saying the race exemplifies the east-meets-west culture of the city.

Since there is no official intangible cultural heritage classification, the organiser has appealed to the Tourism Board to promote the race, but has received only a lukewarm response.

Association to go full steam ahead

Members of the Swiss Association of Hong Kong will be pushing the boat out tonight in Happy Valley to celebrate National Day. But instead of these Star Ferry uniforms, which they donned for the Matilda Sedan Chair Race last year, members are more likely to be kitted out in red and white smart-casual wear.

Family: Sedan Chair Races And Bazaar

The Matilda Sedan Chair Race with 50 sedan chair teams and 500 runners in aid of Hong Kong charities. Today, race starts at 10am. Matilda Hospital, Mt Kellett Rd, The Peak. The Matilda Bazaar will be opened at noon by guest of honour Anson Chan Fang On-sang. Stalls include medieval-style crafts, fortune-telling, children's games, food, drinks and gifts.
