Top thinkers show power of an adventurous spirit

Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) is devoted to spreading the ideas of leading personalities. The annual conference, which was launched in California 25 years ago, invites the world's leading thinkers to speak for 18 minutes. TEDxPearlRiver is an independently organised TED event. In October, it was held in Hong Kong and two of our Junior Reporters attended the conference.

Mount Everest

With its peak reaching 8,850 metres, Mount Everest is the world's tallest mountain.

The Tibetans call it Chomolungma, 'the Goddess Mother of the World'. They believe the Yeti or 'Abominable Snowman' lives on the top of the mountain.

Policeman climbing for charity won't be beat

A police inspector raising money for Cambodian landmine victims has vowed to repeat an attempt to conquer South America's highest peak after turning back 270 metres from the summit.

Mark Duncan, 33, suffered frostbite to his face during his initial attempt in December to conquer Mount Aconcagua in Argentina.

SAR climber raises flag high on Pole

It may not be the highest mountain in the world but the 5,140-metre Mount Vinson is one of the coldest, as Chung Kin-man found out.

The 44-year-old climbing gear shopowner returned this week after a gruelling five-day climb to the highest point on the South Pole.

'It was a wonderful feeling, getting to the top and spreading the SAR flag,' he said.
